MAHARSHI SMARANA ( 20/21 January; 6 Magh)

The University remains closed to mark the death anniversary of Maharshi Devendranath Tagore father of the poet.

NETAJI JANMA DIVAS (23 January)

The birth anniversary of Netaji Subhaschandra Bose is commemorated every year with a flag-hoisting ceremony in the morning and illumination in the evening.

REPUBLIC DAY (26 January)

There is a flag-hoisting ceremony in the morning with school children singing svadeshi songs. Gourprangan is illuminated in the evening.

 

GANDHI PUNYAHA (10 March)

All members of the Visva-Bharati community do the menial work on the campus themselves this day remembering Gandhi's visit to Santiniketan in 1914 and in token respect to his ideals.

VARSHA-SHESH

An evening prayer service is held at the mandir in thanksgiving for the 
end of a fruitful year.


NAVA VARSHA & RABINDRA JANMOTSAV 
(14/15 April; 1 Vaisakh)

The new year starts with a morning service in the mandir followed by Rabindra Janmotsav celebrations. The university remains closed for summer and the poet's birth anniversary is celebrated on that day.


SILPOTSAV (17 September)

A secular festival honouring the artisan and craftsman.


7 POUSH

A morning service is held at Chhatimtala.

 

CHRISTOTSAV (25 December)


An evening service at the mandir with Chirstmas carols.

SAMAVARTANA

Samavartana is an important date in the University calender. This is the annual convocation when student who have successfully completed their course of studies receive Saptaparni leaves from the Acharya. The Desikottam, Visva-Bharati's highest accolade is awarded to distinguished persons.
